Animal rescue dog goes from shy to superstar

If there's any dog that can prove what a little love and attention can do for a rescue animal, it's Abbie, a 4-year-old Australian Kelpie mix.

When the precious pooch was adopted two years ago by Michael Uy, she was scared of everything but her own shadow, according to Mercury News. Fast-forward to today and the dog is now a surfing superstar who as accrued more medals in the sport than any other canine in the United States.

"I didn't teach her anything," Uy told the news source. "I'm just learning how to surf so I can keep up with my dog."

The proud pet owner first noticed Abbie's skills when he became aware of a dog surfing contest. Although he thought it was a long shot, he signed her up and hoped for the best.

Today Abby has proved she can hang ten with the best of them. She's also due to be a featured guest at the Humane Society Silicone Valley's second annual Music & Wine festival.

For now, Uy wants people to spread the word about shelter animals.

"I want them to see that rescue dogs are just as good as any other dog," he told the news outlet.

The Humane Society reports that between six to eight million pets enter animal rescue shelters every year.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19909206-ADNFCR
