Animal rescue receives large donation from author

Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary in St. Paul, North Carolina, recently received a very generous gift from a New York Times bestselling author.

WRAL reports that the rescue shelter was fortunate enough to receive a $10,000 donation from author Gwen Cooper, whose book, Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, tells the tale about a blind feline who has led an extraordinary life.

The facility in St. Paul is only one of two in the country that is dedicated to providing a permanent home to blind cats.

"Gwen has become such a strong national advocate for the plight of 'special needs' pets everywhere," shelter director Alana Miller said in a statement. "We've heard from so many people who've chosen to bring a blind cat into their heart and home because of Gwen's book."

Cooper visited the shelter and then traveled to nearby Raleigh to present the check and give a short reading.

The Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary has rescued over 60 cats that would have been euthanized and has provided them with a permanent home for them to live the rest of their days.
