Anonymous neighbors give $23 thousand to save Four Paws Rescue animal shelter

Six anonymous neighbors of the Four Paws Rescue shelter in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, donated approximately $23 thousand to save the organization from having to close its doors reported NBC-affiliate WETM News.

Denise Morrell, the director of Four Paws Rescue, was struggling to keep the shelter afloat because of the difficult economy and had put everything she had into helping the animals.

“We were actually going to lose our home and the shelter,” Morrell told the source. “The dogs and I, we were going to have to move somewhere. We really didn’t know what we were going to do.”

The Four Paws Rescue shelter is home to over 50 animals and is the only shelter in Tioga County that can take in unwanted and stray animals. The only other nearby shelter, Wellsboro SPCA, closed in April.

Shelters like Morrell’s play a vital role in improving the lives of unwanted and stay animals by providing them with food, shelter and a caring surrounding.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, owned cats and dogs generally live longer, healthier lives than strays.
