The love a person feels for their pet often knows no boundaries, and Kohl Serwold can attest to that. The 14-year-old recently used his quick thinking to save his dog from drowning, according to SeattlePI.com
Serwold, who lives in the Poulbso, Washington area, heard the neighbors calling for Kali, his 3-year-old Golden Retriever. The eager dog chased a bunch of seals and wound up swimming out in Liberty Bay.
"It was farther than normal so I started calling her. She would turn around, then she'd keep going," Serwold told the news outlet.
After donning a life preserver, Serwold paddled out from the shore and was able to coax Kali into his canoe. She was visibly shaken, but saved nonetheless.
"It was a real act of bravery on his part," the young boy's neighbor, Jim LaFramboise, told the news source.
While many dog breeds are expert swimmers, it is possible for pets to drown. According to PetPlace.com, canines who are very young, old or debilitated may be most at risk for experiencing such an accident.
