Canadian Group Wins $2,000

For the first time in the Shelter Challenge's history, one group walked away with both prizes being awarded in a week.  Langley Animal Protection Society of Aldergrove, BC, took the most votes for Week 3 as well as the most supporters recruited, earning them $2,000 in Shelter Challenge grants.

The next week saw The Cat House on the Kings, a frequent Shelter Challenge winner, receive the Weekly Winner grant and a first-time winner take the Recruiter grant: The Fort Rescue (Fortitudine Vincimus Rescue Center) of Asheboro, NC.

The $100,000 Winter 2013 Shelter Challenge continues through December 22 at A total of $100,000 in cash grants will be awarded as well as vaccinations and pet beds.

*Organizations only can win one Weekly award (for most votes cast between Monday and Sunday that week) and one Recruiter award (for most recruits by a single person) per Shelter Challenge round as per the Rules.

Organizations will receive $1,000 grant for every weekly or recruiter award. Organizations must have registered their nonprofit status, a working mail address, and be able to accept funds as a check drawn upon a U.S. bank as part of the condition of this grant.

All winners are responsible for reporting back to Petfinder Foundation and about how these funds were used.

Since 2008, more than 400 shelters and animal rescue organizations in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere have received more than $1.4 million in Shelter Challenge grants. Funding for Shelter Challenge grants comes from The Animal Rescue Site.
