Dog answers the call to help others

Grayson is a five year old toy schnauzer with a heart of gold. He is one of only a handful of disaster stress relief dogs who aid victims of natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes, reports the Savannah Morning News.

Grayson knows a thing or two about surviving a disaster. Lynn Skinner rescued him after Hurricane Katrina left him homeless and emaciated. He was going to be euthanized, but Skinner flew to Louisiana to bring him back to Georgia with her. Once home, she immediately saw what a loving and caring animal he was.

Skinner took him to the salon with her and noticed the reaction of one woman who asked to hold him.

"He sat there and didn't move," she told the news source. "I was watching her. She was just stroking him. I could see the comfort he gave her."

Grayson was first certified as a therapy dog for use at local nursing homes and hospices, and became a disaster stress relief dog earlier this year.

Skinner found Grayson through an animal rescue website. When looking to adopt a new pet, check sources like local newspapers or the internet to locate an animal rescue shelter close to you that can assist in the adoption process.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19811969-ADNFCR
