Dog freed after head gets stuck in hole

There's nothing worse than seeing a dog in a painful predicament, but that's exactly what happened in Riverside, California, this week. Luckily, the pooch was rescued and is likely resting comfortably at home.

According to, an 8-month-old German shepherd was able to poke part of his body through an 18-inch hole in his home. The canine was left with his lower body still inside the house while his head remained outside.

"My initial reaction was, 'Wow, how'd he get in there?'" Riverside County Animal Services Sgt. James Huffman said in a statement from the agency. "And why is there a hole that big in the wall?"

After 30 minutes, officials were able to save the dog and turn him over to a neighbor. Huffman told the news outlet that he'll likely return to the home to ask the owner to put up chicken wire to prevent such an incident from happening again.

Riverside County Animal Services is a nonprofit which oversees scores of shelters in the California area.
