Dog gets life saving surgery after being hit by car

Two-year-old Kirby had been struck by a car and was unable to move her legs, but she has made a miraculous recovery considering her injuries could have been fatal, The New York Daily News reports.

The lovable pooch's injuries often result in being put down because animal rescue shelters can't afford to have an operation performed, but her warm demeanor and caring personality prompted animal rescue workers to do whatever it took to get her the surgery she needed.

She was taken to NYC Veterinary Specialists, a hospital open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where it was found that she had a fractured back and that she could not feel her legs.

Doctors placed a special plate, made out of a kind of plastic that doesn't require screws to be inserted, to help stabilize her back, and five days after the operation she was able to move her legs.

Kirby went through hydrotherapy to help rebuild her strength and reclaim the use of her legs, and now has no pain and is able to walk just like she could before.

According to the Humane Society, six to eight million animals are cared for by rescue shelters in the United States every year.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19926323-ADNFCR
