Dog helps save the life of another pooch with blood donation

Corky, an 18-year old Staffordshire Terrier, was rushed to an animal hospital because she was hemorrhaging, and was in desperate need of surgery. Doctors needed to do a blood transfusion before performing any kind of procedure. That is where Blondie, a 3-year-old yellow Labrador, came in to save the day, reports.

Blondie was selected to be the blood donor for Corky and the young pup gave 250 milliliters of blood to the much older patient, helping save her life.

Corky had suffered from undiagnosed gum disease, which can lead to medical complications if left untreated. The donation provided the much needed relief for the canine, and she was able to have her surgery.

"All went well four days later - Corky received the much-needed gum and dental work and returned home," according to a release from Common Sense for Animals Shelter, where the pup was living. "And just as good news is that Blondie is now adopted less than a month since her life-saving donation of blood."

According to, if plaque build up from the collection of food and bacteria in an animal's mouth it may develop into periodontal disease which is extremely painful and can lead to the loss of teeth.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19928495-ADNFCR
