Dog rescued from canal finds loving home

An animal rescue performed by passersby may have helped save a young dog's life, WWLTV reports.

The canine was spotted in a canal struggling to keep her head above water when the group of people staged a rescue after emergency services didn't respond to their calls. The pooch almost drowned several times, but was able to swim over to one of the rescuers calling for her. She was immediately rushed to an animal hospital where she was evaluated.

A veterinarian found that she had heartworms, intestinal worms and was extremely malnourished. Luckily, she was nursed back to health.

Her story was broadcast on the news, and one man that was watching knew he had to take the lovable pup in.

"Her eyes, those sad eyes that she had and the fact that she had been in the canal and almost drowned and eaten up by the bugs, it just touched me it really did" Scott Hoppymeyer, her new owner, told the news source.

The dog, now named Amazing Grace, has bonded with Hoppymeyer and is adjusting to home life, something she had never experienced as a little puppy.

According to the American Pet Products Association, over 71 million homes have at least one pet in the United States.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19926315-ADNFCR
