Drogheda Animal Rescue in need of funds and greater support

Kittens and puppies are in need of new homes everywhere in the U.S., but also in Europe. In Ireland, the Drogheda Animal Rescue (DAR) is looking to raise funds in order to keep animals healthy and safe, according to the Drogheda Independent.

One member of the DAR fundraising committee spoke with the news source about the current situation facing many rescue programs. Times are hard and the economy is not helping, but if anyone has the means and time to help out at an animal shelter, it may just mean the welfare of a cute helpless animal.

"We are currently seeing a sharp increase in the number of dogs being surrendered or abandoned/strayed and as summertime is also the height of the kitten season, we are simply overwhelmed and struggling to cope," the animal rescue worker told the news source.

In the U.S., there are currently 93 million cats who have homes, according to the Humane Society. Many more are waiting to be adopted.
