East Coast Humane Society holds animal rescue benefit

Fundraisers for local animal rescue organizations are helping bring in money for the much-needed services provided by groups such as East Coast Humane Society and This & That Emergency Animal Care, according to a new report from the Register Citizen.

For example, a Flatbread Pizza store in Canton will be the site of a fundraiser. Donations are being accepted and anyone throughout the country can help by contacting local animal rescue organizations associated with the relief effort in Joplin, Missouri.

"We're also having a silent auction from 5 to 8:30 p.m. And 100 percent of all proceeds will go directly to these great non-profit organizations. We're having it at Flatbread because they're so great about helping charities," Reggie Davis, who owns This & That, told the news provider.

According to the Humane Society, there are more than 77 million dogs and 93 million cats who are household pets in the United States. About 39 percent of American homes have at least one dog, while about 33 percent of U.S. homes have at least one cat. In times of emergency, animal rescue organizations are crucial to ensuring the livelihood of abandoned animals.
