Halloween inspired fashion show raises money for animal rescues

A fun Halloween fashion show to benefit the Humane Society of Louisiana and several other area shelters will be held this weekend, with both humans and pets participating. reports that the event is the brainchild of Diane Lundeen, who says that she has loved of animals ever since she was a child. Her family used to take in strays and rescue animals and help find them permanent homes.

Lundeen first began to support local animal rescues in 2008 when she and a group of friends created the Bad to the Bone: Rescued on the Runway event, which allowed pets and their owners to don festive Halloween costumes and strut their stuff down the catwalk.

"We thought, 'How much fun would it be to go to a party with your dog?'" she told the news source.

Lundeen also says that past events have also helped place some of the featured dogs in a permanent home after spectators saw them on the runway.

Rescue shelters care for six to eight million pets every year in the U.S., according to the Humane Society, so when considering adopting an animal, check out your local rescue organizations.
