Help animals by picking your pooch from a rescue center

Choosing to adopt your next dog from an animal shelter is an excellent way to help animals and bring a loving and grateful pet into your home.

However, when confronted with a sea of adorable but needy faces, it can be hard to pick only one furry friend to bring back with you.

The next time you take a trip to an animal rescue shelter, make sure that you head in with an idea of the kind of pooch you're looking for, and what you have the time and patience to handle.

If you're who is willing to put the time and energy into training and working with a dog that has been abused, you might be able to give man's best friend a new lease on life.

However, if you're a family with young children and a lot of time commitments, a dog that seems friendly and sociable is likely to be a less time-consuming option.

Whichever animal you choose, they'll begin to feel like a member of the family as soon as you bring your new pet home.

According to the Humane Society, when bringing your dog to your house for the first time, it's important to have reasonable expectations as they adjust to their new life and new surroundings.
