Mason County Animal Shelter has cats and dogs for adoption

The Mason County Animal Shelter in Point Pleasant has 28 dogs and 3 cats still up for adoption, according to My Daily Register.

The animal shelter is offering pets for an adoption fee of $25 and includes all shots. The dogs have all been wormed, as well, according to the news source.

Since February adoption numbers were not as high as the shelter had hoped, the dog warden, Derrick Meadows, is pitching for higher adoption numbers in March.

"There aren't any bad animals here," said Meadows.

The animal shelter also accepts new animals for a small fee and is open to non-monetary donations such as animal food, blankets and other supplies.

Animal overpopulation is a major concern as dogs and cats continue to be euthanized due to lack of available homes. Many of these animals are otherwise healthy and could be saved. Spaying and neutering can help to control the animal overpopulation problem.

There are about 77.5 million household dogs and 93.6 million house cats in the U.S., according to the Humane Society.
