Followers of Mike Tyson know that the boxer can be a beast in the ring, and viewers of the comedy hit The Hangover know if his fondness for tigers.
But when the former world heavyweight champion appears on an Animal Planet reality show early next year, he'll be working with a new kind of animal: pigeons.
The network will fix a camera on the eccentric sportsman as he works with a team of pigeon experts to rear, train and eventually race pigeons on the rooftops of New York City buildings, C21Media.net reports.
Tyson is reportedly a veteran pigeon trainer, having kept about 350 of the birds his backyard, according to MSNBC.
"I'm honored to be a part of this monumental show on Animal Planet," Tyson told the news source.
He added, "I feel a great pride acting as an official representative for all the pigeon fancier's out there. I want people to see why we love these birds."
While PETA has voiced displeasure with the treatment of animals that pigeon racing requires, Animal Planet's media president Marjorie Kaplan views the boxers involvement with animals as an inspiration, saying, "Tyson's passion for his pigeons takes my breath away."
