Scores of puppies and adult dogs were rescued from a puppy mill and are now in need of a caring home, 1010 WINS
The canines - about 70 Chihuahuas, Shih-Tzus, Papillions and Pomeranians in total - were rescued by the North Shore Animal League, and quickly made their way to New York to undergo medical evaluations. The pooches will then be put up for adoption, where they hopefully will find permanent, loving parents.
Devera Lynn, Vice President of Communications for North Shore Animal League, reminded the public about the dangers of puppy mills.
"Many of the dogs that you see in pet stores come from these puppy mills," she told the news source. "It's a horrible situation and unfortunately the more people go to pet stores the more operators will continue to have these facilities running."
According to the Humane Society, dogs bred in puppy mills are often born with health problem and are kept in deplorable conditions. People thinking about adding a furry companion to their family may want to head to their local animal shelter and help save an animal's life.
