Ginger, an eight month old boxer mix, found herself stranded on an island in the middle of a pond in Cleveland, Ohio, reports Fox 8
Luckily , a passerby saw she was stuck and called Cleveland's Animal Control. However, Ginger couldn't build up the courage to swim across after officers tried to coax her with food and even the company of another dog.
"She got really excited when that dog came out but couldn't get the nerve to go any further to the water that was over her head," John Baird, Chief Animal Control officer, told the news provider.
Firefighters ended up using a rowboat to go out and retrieve her. She hopped right in once they reached the small island.
They still do not know how she got there in the first place.
Ginger will be held at a local shelter for her owner. If she isn't claimed after three days, she will be put up for adoption.
Pets that are abandoned often end up in local shelters, where they are put up for adoption. If looking for a furry companion, try contacting a local shelter. There are many animals who need loving homes.
