Six year old attempts to rescue disfigured foal

Most little girls envision owning their very own pony, and 6-year-old Maddison Biddlecombe is no different from the rest. When the Southampton, England native immediately bonded with Diego, a male horse who was born May 12, it looked like her dreams were coming true, the Telegraph reports.

However, the child is now in the midst of a difficult animal rescue attempt, as her foal is struggling with Wry Nose Syndrome. The disease causes him to have a bent nose and undershot jaw, and leads to a disfigured appearance.

"Diego is my best friend and I don't care what he looks like, to me his face makes him special," Biddlecombe told the news source. She is hoping to raise almost $6,000 for an operation to be performed by an equine dentist.

The daring little girl's mother, Janey Biddlecombe, certainly agrees with her daughter, and insists she will not put him down.

"Maybe it's an easy way out but not for me. I don't agree with putting him to sleep just because he looks different," she told the news source.

Wry Nose Syndrome leads to the jaw growing to one side of a horse's mouth. It affects their ability to graze when they're older, which could lead to malnourishment.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19854963-ADNFCR
