Last June, Arnold, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix, was picked up by the SPCA where I volunteer. He was brought in as a stray with a mysterious patch of paint on his abdomen, which left him with a lingering skin problem. The staff and I feared from the start that he would be the dog that people walked right by, day after day. And that's exactly what happened. In his prime, Arnold must surely have been a handsome fellow, stocky and imposing, but this 8 year old Staffordshire's age and skin issues didn't help his image. He also has a soft palette that causes him to breathe noisily when excited, which many mistook for growling. I visited with him every week for six weeks and fell in love, but I had three dogs at the time and that was a definite limit. After a picture of Arnold and me made it onto Facebook, my sister came down and adopted him. Since then, he has enjoyed life with her and my niece. Unfortunately, they moved out of state and could not take Arnold with them. There was no way I was letting Arnold go back to the shelter, and since my 12 year old Lab passed last September, Arnold now resides with us, and I couldn't be happier :D
