For almost 3 months a tenacious young male visited our property much to the consternation of our other two kitties. In fact there were quite a few fracas in the beginning and a few vets bills to boot. We weren't sure whether to welcome him or chase him off. We felt sorry for him. Such a beautiful smoky gray cat who we suspect had been dumped. He wanted to be around us but it was causing a few issues! He was even coming into the house through the cat flap and it seemed there was little we could do. A couple of times he'd lay on our porch stretched and chilled while the other two hung out on the other side of the screen door watching him without too much fuss.
We hadn't seen him for about a week, and then just this week he showed in our kitchen. Suddenly he was as tame as could be wanting love and attention. He'd been pretty cautious up to that point. It was also pretty clear that he was sick. He'd lost weight, looked very scrawny, dirty and was sneezing mucous all over the show. (Sorry TMI I know). It was clear that if we didn't get him to the vet he could get sicker. We managed to entice him (gingerly) into our cat carrier with the promise of some fishy wet food. After a visit to the vet, and a few important shots and fluids, he came home to take up residence in one of our bedrooms.
I can't believe how good and friendly he's been. (With a few sharp claw-filled exchanges to keep me in my place) He seems happy. I'm spending lots of time with him. He wants to be stroked, he's eating like crazy and today played with a little fish toy for the first time. And after one little accident he's taken to the litter box like a trooper.
After his quarantine period is over we'll integrate him with our kitties. I'm so glad little Blue has chosen us as his new family! We are blessed!
