We live in Baltimore, one of way too many cities overrun with homeless cats. We lost our cat of 22 years and were unsure if we wanted to rush into adopting another. As all of us animal lovers know, we get no say in the matter. My downstairs neighbor knocked on my door and said he wanted to show me something. We went down the street to an abandoned building, pulled the plywood back from a window, and there was Derby (the calico). She was very clean and seemed well fed, so I took her in thinking someone would be looking for her. No one was and she became the cat we weren't sure we wanted. We love her dearly, so dearly, about six months later, we decided she needed a sibling. We were going to Pet Smart that evening and decided we'd take a look at the SPCA cats they had there for adoption. On the way to Pet Smart, getting into our car, I heard a tiny meow. I asked my husband if he heard it too. He said, "sounds like a kitten". I sat on the ground and called for the kitten. Here comes running, Tag (the orange) right onto my lap and into our heart's. He's so full of energy and goofiness. He and Derby chase each other, bath each other, sleep together and bring constant laughter, fun an love into our lives. We may not have asked for another cat or two, but life wouldn't be any fun without them. Rescue a pet - there's nothing more rewarding.
