I don't know what made me look closer at the lump of mud at the corner of the sidewalk, but I did. Covered in muck, the frog stared balefully up at me, struggled as I picked him up, and gripped me with strong hands as I carried him home. I meant only to wash the dirt from him, but noticed that his legs were dangling uselessly down as the hose gently cleaned him. I couldn't just leave him, injured as he was, so I took him inside and put him in an old (thoroughly cleaned) aquarium. I bought him crickets and mealworms to eat, and undertook to bathe him daily- warm water because he seemed so cold and stiff. Then, one day his back legs jerked! And then he pulled one leg up! Happily, yesterday I was able to let him go, watching as he hopped from tree to fence to plant hanger- which is where you see him in the photo.
