Simon had a home as an only cat for the first two years of his life then was turned into a shelter. The paperwork for Simon said his caretaker was moving and couldn't take him with her. When I started volunteering for a rescue agency where Simon was not many volunteers would take Simon out of his cage to socialize him. Simon was terrified and hissed, spit and growled to keep people away. Since he's a black cat people also had misconceptions so month after month he was left alone. My supervisor asked me to try working with Simon once he was put on the short list to be euthanized. I swallowed my fear and started to get to know Simon. He was starting to warm up to me when the rescue agency was told it was his last day. I was asked to foster Simon and reluctantly agreed because I already had 3 cats in my 1 bedroom apartment. Simon lived in my bedroom by himself while he adjusted to life here. We bonded deeply and I requested adoption after a month. Simon is affectionate with me and purrs loudly when I talk to him and touch him. He's not fond of the other cats but they tolerate each other. My bedroom is still Simon's safe place but after 3 years with me he's now comfortable roaming the living room and hanging out there. I can't imagine life without my little cuddle bug, Simon brings me much joy and comfort and is definitely a "one woman" man!
