Rescue of Basenji and Shiba Inu and their mixes and placement into best home suited to each dog individually via foster network and collaboration with other breed rescues across the United States.Founded in 1999 in Indianapolis, IN as solely a Basenji Rescue.In 2000 began rescuing the Shiba Inu, another primitive breed. National Geographic study of DNA found this breed is the most closely related to the wolf. We started doing business as (dba) Americas Basenji and Shiba Inu Rescue. In 2012 the rescue was briefly relocated to Edmonton, KY, where the mission continued but also included other breeds brought by animal control.In 2015, the rescue was relocated back to Indianapolis, IN In 2017, the rescue became primarily foster based. We have three permanent residents in sanctuary and we only are able to temporarily provide housing until foster or adopter is found and began using the acronym ABSIR We are a 501c3 with the IRS as a true Not-For-Profit charity.
