LA GLORIA, SANTUARION CANINO

La Gloria Dog Shelter was founded in Ciudad Victoria Tamaulipas, Mexico, in November 2014 by Adelaida Pérez Ramírez. The first residents were a dozen puppies with respiratory problems (distemper) who were rescued from the local dogs' home, which had planned to put them to sleep. At that time, the shelter was established in a little house rented for this purpose. Since then, La Gloria has rescued and given care and life-long shelter to many stray dogs, especially those with most disadvantages, such as health problems, physical disabilities and chronic diseases, that make them unlikely to be adopted. The population of rescued dogs quickly grew, and La Gloria had to be relocated to the countryside, where dogs could live more freely and on the open. The new and current shelter is located in La Libertad, a rural town close to La Sierra Madre mountain range and just ten minutes away from Ciudad Victoria. The 3000-square-meter plot of land, corrals and houses have been acquired with contributions from donors. Currently, the shelter has more than 160 dogs, including 5 of the dogs rescued in 2014. Most dogs have been rescued from the streets of Ciudad Victoria, although dogs from other municipalities and states have also been rescued and sheltered.La Gloria is run by a team of 10 people, who everyday put their heart and soul in the challenging task of feeding and protecting the growing family of dogs. So far, the shelter does not receive help from the Mexican government or foundations, so the main challenge every week is to raise funds to perform the most essential tasks: feed and house its growing population of dogs.
