Senior Dog About To Give Birth Rescued From Overcrowded Shelter Just In Time

Senior shelter dogs are constantly overlooked for younger dogs, including mama dogs who have so much love to give. They just want what all shelter pets want - a loving forever home.

Meet Nell.

A sweet 9-year-old pit bull who was cruelly dumped at an overcrowded shelter just before she was due to have puppies. Thankfully, she was rescued just in time by NYC Second Chance Rescue.

Nell went into labor in the transport van and gave birth to her first puppy before arriving at a nearby animal hospital. She delivered eight more healthy pups and immediately went into mom mode.

She raised her puppies in a nurturing foster home and watched as all of them found loving homes. Now, she patiently waits for someone to pick her.

@nycsecondchancerescue Nell is "perfect in every way," according to her foster mom. She is easygoing, potty trained, quiet, and polite. She enjoys short walks and absolutely LOVES belly rubs. Nell is gentle, affectionate, and adores being around people. And this amazing mama is ready to find a home of her very own. Her puppies are healthy and beautiful, and most have been pre-adopted. But Nell is still on the market! We can't say enough great things about this sweet older girl; from almost giving birth in a shelter, to going into labor on the transport van, to spending the last few months being a wonderful mom to her babies––Nell is just the best. She is 9 years old, loves giving kisses, and has a tail that just won't quit. According to her foster mom, she is "perfect in every way". She is easygoing, house-trained, enjoys short strolls, and loves to nap belly-up in the sun.

Don't let her age fool you, she still loves to play. Her tail is constantly wagging, and she is such a good girl.

Her only requirement is that she is the only dog. However, she does get along with her foster family's "dog-savvy" cat.

The rescue believes this was not Nell's only litter of puppies. No one knows her full story, but the rescue knows she deserves to spend the rest of her life in a loving home. They wrote, "After the life she’s lived, Nell and her soft belly are just looking for a home with a soft bed, a spot of sunshine, and a family who will love her."

There is nothing like a mother's love and this mama has so much love to share.

The rescue is running a Mother's Day special with reduced adoption fees to help several of their "retired" mama dogs find homes. Anyone interested in adopting Nell or any of the other mamas is asked to fill out an application on the rescue's website.

Over 14,000 lives have been saved since NYC Second Chance Rescue started in 2009. When asked "why they do what they do?" The answer is simple - "Because they matter."
