Artisan Information

Founded in 2001 in Bolivia, Jalsu Uma focuses on training women in the production of accessories made from alpaca wool. Started by five women, the cooperative now includes more than 20 who are trained in techniques such as hand looming, weaving, and crocheting. Artisans have the option to work from home to care for their children and meet weekly for production matters. Jalsu Uma strives for expansion, providing more women with the opportunity to financially support themselves and their families, innovating new designs, and becoming a leader in Bolivian handicrafts.

I have smaller hands and these mittens allow me to type on a keyboard!!! yea; something I couldn't do with traditional fingertip-less gloves.

Warm and pretty

Bought purple/aqua pastel and I love them! The colors are beautiful and they are so cozy for my cold hands. First night I received them they kept my hands warm while playing bingo in a cold location. Glad I bought them!

wonderful, hands stay warm!

I have several pairs of these mittens in lots of different colors. Once the house gets cold for the year, the mittens come out. They keep my hands very warm, yet leave fingers free for typing, sewing, etc. They are usually on most of the day in winter. I have washed them many times in cold water (in a lingerie bag in the washing machine), and let them air dry. They come out fine. I've never had any problems with yarn coming loose. I have also given these as gifts. I truly think these are a great purchase!
