Give these often overlooked shelter animals a chance at happiness.
Beautiful and majestic - horses are kind and gentle creatures, yet each year there are around 200,000 horses that are surrendered to shelters or rescued from horrible living conditions*.
How To Help:
You can help by giving! When you give these are just some of the items we will send on your behalf dependent upon what is needed most:
• Wound Spray & Fly Spray (Shelter's Favorite)
• Fly Sheets & Fly Masks
• Stable Blankets & Jolly Balls (and other toys)
• Salt & Mineral Blocks (Horses' Favorite)
• Cotton Lead Ropes & Rope Halters
• Flat Back Buckets & Slow Feed Hay Nets
The Situation:
Horses arrive at rescue facilities for many reasons — illness, age, abandonment after natural disasters, or because their owners can no longer provide care. Tragically, many are rescued from severe neglect, malnourishment, or abuse.
Older horses, those with lameness or health issues, are especially vulnerable to surrender or abandonment. With care costs averaging $600 per month in the U.S.**, many people find themselves unable to meet the financial demands of horse ownership.

These gentle giants deserve love and proper care. Rescue organizations work tirelessly to provide shelter, food, and veterinary support — but essential supplies stretch their budgets to the limit. From fly spray and halters to blankets and buckets, supplies are used repeatedly until worn out, making ongoing support critical to the horses' recovery.
What you Give Matters:
Fly masks, fly spray and fly sheets are always needed. Flies love to attack horses. Not only is this irritating for the horses but the bites cause sores, larvae deposited can cause bacteria to enter the horse and the flies also carry diseases. Protective fly gear makes a horse's outside time so much more enjoyable and safe.
Wound spray comes in handy when horses come in with open sores. It's sprayed onto the wound to help prevent the area from being infected.
Buckets and hay nets help keep stalls clean, and food and water in a safe and hygienic place for the horses.
Halters and lead ropes aid in training and keep shelter workers and horses safe when the horse enters a new environment.
Salt and Mineral Blocks not only are they a special treat, they also provide essential salt and trace minerals for a healthy diet.
Jolly ball toy perfect for making horses feel more at home and comfortable in their new surroundings. The toys encourage play, and a fun time makes for a happy horse!
Stories:
- Not only do horses benefit from fly spray but so do rescue pigs! Hot Dog was found as a stray right after a storm and despite trying to find his owner, they never came forward. Thanks to the fly spray that was donated, the rescue was able to keep the flies and mosquitos from attacking Hot Dog all day.
- Mirabelle and Ina are the best of friends that share a paddock and run in when it's snack time. "As you can see in the picture they are super fond of their hay nets. One of the benefits of using slow feeder hay nets for horses is they can help prevent digestive problems and behavioral issues. These hay nets provide an eating pattern that is more similar to their natural grazing behaviors" says Kathryn Cordeiro a NEER North Board Member. The second photo is of Little Monk who is appreciating one of the buckets that was sent to him. The rescue is super grateful for the salt bricks, hat nets, fly spray, halters and buckets that were sent to them!

- Zeus the horse got a new halter and lead that the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society was super grateful for. This allows them to lead Zeus in a safe manner and get him where he needs to go while waiting for his forever home.
- The Alaqua Animal Refuge in Florida was sent supplies thanks to customers like you. They received fly sprays, fly nets, salt blocks and several other supplies for the horses they house; along with toys and treats for the dogs they take care of! The goods sent have helped prevent ectoparasite infections and vector borne diseases that are carried by fly's in the pastures. The fly spray is especially essential as fly season is at its peak during the spring and early summer months. With large farm animals supplies are costly, especially for this group that is a non-profit, driven on donations. Below pictured are two of the veterinary technicians and two of the mini horses who benefited from the care kits sent!
