Every year, hundreds of thousands of dogs enter shelters in unimaginable conditions. Victims of abuse and neglect, they are often filthy, matted, and almost unrecognizable as being dogs.
Imagine going to a job interview, or on a first date, smelly and covered in dirt. That’s what it’s like for millions of shelter pets across the country who are waiting to get adopted. Of the 6.5 million dogs that enter shelters each year, a majority of them have never been groomed. Instead of stealing hearts, potential adopters are turned off.
As part of the Dirty Dogs contest in partnership with Wahl Pets, we're teaming up with Greater Good Charities to ensure that shelters have what they need to give deserving dogs all the grooming care they need to wow adopters.
You can help shelters make these incredible transformations possible. Your gift will send necessary supplies to animal shelters dealing with the worst cases of animal neglect, providing grooming and medical supplies as well as ongoing support for these pets in need. Donate now.

Pete
Maddie
This stray dog from Tennessee arrived in desperate need of a warm bath and grooming. Since she arrived at Williamson County Animal Center as a stray, no one knows how she ended up on her own. However, it is clear she has been living on the streets for some time.
A local groomer saw Maddie’s photo as the shelter’s “stray of the day” and stepped up to help. Several hours later, the matted and dirty fur was removed and Maddie looked and felt much better. She is ready to find her forever home.
Bella
Arizona Humane Society took in a neglected senior dog and transformed her look and life. Read her story below.
“Now 12-years-young, Bella is a Miniature Poodle who came to the Arizona Humane Society as an owner surrender after her owner fell ill and there was no one else to care for her. It was clear she was in need some much-needed TLC with the shelter’s groomer who helped her feel and look her best. Additionally, she received a dental and was quickly adopted into her forever home in Chandler, AZ where she gets lots of love and care!”
