I have always been fascinated by our country's rich cultural diversity. And the beautiful craft work of different states brought me closer to my dream, which is to promote the craftwork of India.
I was born in the city of joy – Calcutta – now known as Kolkata. My family soon shifted to New Delhi where I did my schooling and college. I grew up in a family where culture and tradition were of great importance.
"My family has been involved in social activities for a long time now. We have also been involved in charitable works for the aged, for underprivileged children, and medical institutions assisting the poor. All my life I was taught to have a sense of generosity toward the less fortunate and to offer a helping hand to needy. Apart from my active involvement in these activities, I was very keen on art and culture.
"Each state in India has a unique beauty and this is very much depicted in their handicrafts. My interest in India's crafts led me to earn a diploma in export management. With this in hand, I began coordinating sales for several artisans from different parts of the country. During this time, I noticed a lot of artisans who were such experts in their fields but who had not been able to market their products because they did not have the source. This strengthened my resolve to assist them in exporting.
"Initially, I got in touch with the artisans from different places who were involved in different craft forms. Little by little, I organized a small group of artisans working in different materials and styles, and this is when my journey into the realm of handicrafts really began. It is so beautiful to be able to achieve your goal and do what you want in life.
"Currently, I have some 15 to 20 artisans working with me in stone, wood, metal art and small gift items. Together, we make beautiful pieces for the world to see and appreciate."

NOVICA was started with a dream to create a better world for artisans, because a better world for artisans is a better world for all.
Along the way, the founders of NOVICA discovered something very important - as artisans around the world succeeded, there was also a visible and profound impact on the communities around them.
Your purchases are that powerful. They directly and indirectly provide for education, help with health care, fund basic needs, support children, preserve disappearing arts, and of course, spread happiness around the world.
The founders of NOVICA had a vision of the future that is not one of mega factories producing cookie cutter products for all to cheaply consume. Instead, a bright future that celebrates artisans who take the time to create an item by hand. A future where time is protected, where stories are told, where unique details are honored. Love, respect, inclusiveness become driving force.
