Lonesome Rescue Bunny Falls Head Over Heels in Love with Foster Sister
Getting a pet is a huge commitment, but there are still far too many people in the world who buy innocent animals without thinking ahead about how much time they're going to need to give to their new family member. That can often result in animals being neglected, surrendered, or abandoned.
This was likely the case for Bim, a domesticated bunny who was found wandering around outside shortly after the Easter holiday. It's likely that his former owners bought him as a holiday gift for a young child, quickly found out how much work it takes to care for a rabbit properly, and then dumped him. They couldn't even be bothered to take him to a shelter; they just hoped he'd be fine living outside on his own.
Luckily, the little bunny was found by a good samaritan, who brought him to a bunny rescue operation. From there, he was turned over to a foster family to receive the care he needed while he waited for a forever family.
Caroline, Bim's foster mom, says it's typically a good idea to keep foster bunnies away from one another. This prevents mating, fighting, and other issues. It also prevents them from bonding too closely to one another, which can make the adoption process more difficult.
However, Caroline and her partner didn't do a perfect job of keeping Bim from seeing another foster rabbit named Bambi through the gate of their playpens, and it wasn't long before he had fallen head over heels in love with her.
When Caroline realized what was going on, she tried her best to keep them separate and told her partner to do so as well. But her partner believed in the strength of Bim and Bambi's love and wanted them to be together. "He was sneaky when I was gone. He let them interact even more," says Caroline.
Bim and Bambi are so happy together. Bim is so ecstatic about his new girlfriend that he even stopped wanting to be cuddled and picked up so much by his foster parents, because he'd finally found the bunny companionship he'd been looking for. Now he constantly follows Bambi around and barely has any personality of his own to speak of since he's pretty much just adopted hers.
