Greater Good Charities

Though most of the missing have now been accounted for, devastating floods in Central Texas on July 4 still killed more than 130 people, including at least 27 campers and counselors at Camp Mystic in Kerr County. The flood waters from the Guadalupe River, which rose 26 feet in under an hour, wiped away hundreds of homes, displacing an estimated 400 families in the area, along with their pets. Shelters were inundated with lost and, sometimes, deceased pets, as well, placing them among those in need of aid. With your support, we’ve been able to provide some help.

Thanks in part to your clicks, trivia participation, shopping for a cause, and direct donations, our partner Greater Good Charities has been working with organizations in Central Texas to provide pet food and supplies to shelters and families. Teams have also been distributing essential items for community members, including emergency supply packs, as well as hygiene supplies, a critical need for people who have lost everything.

One recent distribution was in Hunt, the town where Camp Mystic is located. A GGC team traveled to a distribution point in the town and provided 60 Good Packs to first responders and community members. Extra hygiene products were provided, as well, as were 10 Pet Packs and additional cat and dog food.

The team continued on to a nearby community where another 50 Good Packs were given to community members, along with other essential hygiene supplies and more pet food.

Supplies were also provided in the town of Comfort, which is among the communities with significant flood damage.

The recovery for disasters like this can take months and even years. GGC continues to coordinate with local organizations -including animal shelters - to ensure they have what they need, particularly when it comes to pet food, hygiene items, and other essential supplies.
