On August 13th as part of the 10th annual Clear The Shelters month-long campaign, The Animal Rescue Site and Greater Good Charities are partnering with Hill’s Pet Nutrition to fly over 100 pets to new homes from overcrowded shelters in the South to shelters in the Northeast that have more room and more adopters.

The flight will depart from New Orleans and land in Morristown to give dozens of homeless pets a second chance to find a forever home.

NBCUniversal Local's nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign, Clear The Shelters, is celebrating its 10th anniversary and has extended the donation part of the campaign to run from August 1 to September 30. Starting August 10, you will be able to select a local participating shelter or rescue to donate to here

The adoption campaign will run August 10 to September 10. Last year, Clear the Shelters campaign reached a huge milestone with the 1 millionth pet being adopted. The total number of pets adopted since the campaign started in 2015 is 1,020,832.

Executive Vice President of Diginets & Original Production, Meredith McGinn, said in a press release, "Surpassing the one millionth all-time adoption last year and now celebrating our 10th campaign are not just milestones, these numbers help quantify the incredible support Clear The Shelters has received from communities around the nation and the impact it’s had on vulnerable animals and the shelters that care for them."

Animal shelters and rescues are overflowing with highly adoptable dogs and cats and could really use help finding the pets homes. They are also stretched thin on their minimal budgets and the extra funds would go a long way in helping to care for all the homeless animals.

Join us in helping save more lives by flying over 100 dogs and cats to freedom. Without this flight, they might never find their loving homes due to the overcrowding that often happens in shelters. Meet a few of the passengers on the flight below.

The adorable felines quickly won the hearts of staff with their sweet personalities and playful antics. They told us, "They love to play and will paw at you for additional attention. We know they are going to live their best lives in New Jersey."

Kyndal

This kind four-year-old German shepherd needs someone to love. Iberville Parish Animal Shelter shared her story with us, "Kyndal was dumped at a nearby farm. She was scared and a local farmboy worked with her for weeks building her trust. She is super affectionate and gentle. She likes to be close to you and walks well on a leash. She was very thin when she was first found and we are so happy to say she is now at a healthy weight and really beautiful. The farm boy named her after what he said was the prettiest girl he knew! We know she is going to live her best life with her brand new family!"
