An estimated 3 million stray cats roam the streets of Greece looking for a scrap of food and often go hungry. Many are forced to fight for food and shelter and live a tough life with no positive human contact. 

The Animal Rescue Site and Greater Good Charities have teamed up with Let's Be S.M.A.R.T., a cat welfare organization in Athens, to help feed the homeless cats. 

Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to send 35 pallets of tasty and nutritious cat food to feed the hungry cats. 

The wet food was distributed to 13 volunteers who feed strays in different areas to spoil the cats with a delicious meal. The food was quickly devoured by the starving felines and countless cats had their first positive human interaction.  

Let's Be S.M.A.R.T. told us, "With the current heat wave in Greece, this high-quality wet food is helping support the community cats they care for. These stray cats struggle to find clean water and sufficient nutrition in the best of times. But with the excessive heat, they are physically stressed all the more. The extra nutrients Schesir cat food pouches provide are saving hundreds, if not thousands of lives."

One of the volunteers, Anna, shared how she works tirelessly to help feed and care for the stray cats and even takes many injured or orphaned cats into her home to recover. She moved to Kallithea from Ukraine in 2015 and immediately started to help care for the stray cats. 

Every day she makes sure to provide food at her feeding stations which feeds around 100 cats from five different colonies. She also is involved in the local TNR program to help reduce the population of stray cats. The sick or injured cats are brought back to her home, and many go on to find loving homes across Europe. 

She said, "I can't help every cat here, but I try my best to at least take home lone infant, hurt and sick cats I come upon and try to heal them." 

As the cost of pet food increases, Anna has turned to fundraising to help feed the cats in her area. While this has helped, she said she still struggles to "make ends meet" and appreciates your support. 

"This generous donation helped greatly to ensure the outdoor strays have food for the beginning of the month," she said.
