Man Makes Lifejacket To Save His Girlfriend's Aging Pet Fish

A lot of people grow up having pet goldfish. They're cheap, low maintenance, and easy to come by. They don't require daily walks or expensive food; they really sound like a parent's dream when it comes to pet ownership for kids!

However, any true pet parent will tell you that taking care of nearly any animal takes a lot of work, effort, and commitment. One person who knows this all too well is a man named Aidan.

Aidan, who goes on TikTok by @aidancramer shared a video saying that when his girlfriend's 23-year-old pet fish, Sally, took a turn for the worst, he was right there to help her up - literally.

According to the RSPCA, some goldfish varieties can live up to 30 years old, but few receive the proper care or environment required to live a full life. Thankfully, it seems Sally is on the right path thanks to her owners' loving care.

In the video, Aidan says, "One morning, my girlfriend's 23-year-old goldfish couldn't get off the bottom of her tank. So, I decided to try and give her some buoyancy."

From there, he got busy and transformed a cork and an old bikini into a usable life jacket!

Thanks to the handmade lifejacket, Sally was able to swim around her tank once again. It's something that would've been the end for many fish, but Aidan was willing to put in the extra work to give her a fighting chance.

Many people in the comments pointed out that the tank little Sally was in looked tiny for a goldfish. Thankfully, Aidan was more than happy to share that the tank was just a "holding tank" while Sally was using the lifejacket.

Goldfish require large tanks as they grow. According to The Spruce Pets, while one goldfish may be fine with a 20-gallon tank to start, expect to upgrade to a 50, 75, or even 100-gallon tank for one goldfish.

Another thing many people wanted to know is how he managed to get the tiny string around Sally's little body. Thankfully, he had an explanation for us about that too.

He created a hand-drawn diagram, explaining that they used the bikini strap like a lasso of sorts to slip it over her fin and then synched it tight. It's a clever idea, to say the least.

Goldfish are often viewed as disposable pets and they're not always treated as valuable individuals. A lot of sick goldfish end up flushed down the toilet instead of getting the proper help that they need. It's nice to see Aidan putting so much care and effort into little Sally and letting her life out her golden years in comfort!
