Police Investigate After K-9 Officer Accused of "Stealing" Food in Funny Facebook Post

The Wyandotte Police Department in Michigan launched a full-scale investigation recently into the theft of an officer's lunch. A suspect was almost immediately identified, but he either knew his rights or had a mouthpiece on hand to advise him against incriminating himself because he refuses to talk. That might also be because he's a dog and he hasn't mastered English yet.

K-9 Cops

Taking to Facebook to announce the crime, the police hilariously kept the public up to date stating that the K-9 was "under investigation for stealing."

"Stealing is not only a crime but it is morally wrong, too. Some jobs, like that of being a police officer, require you to take an oath prior to starting," the funny post read. "Within the officer's sworn oath is the promise to protect a person's property. That being said, it saddens me to report that a current officer of the Wyandotte Police Department is under investigation for stealing!"

The statement went on to explain that Officer Barwig was eating his lunch in the break room when he was called to assist in the WPD jail. It was during his absence that the alleged crime occurred.

Calling All Cars!

While they didn't put out an All Points Bulletin over the theft, they did go on to provide some details regarding the alleged perpetrator and their opportunity. No motive was mentioned.

"He quickly jumped into service, leaving his half eaten lunch on the table. A short while later, Barwig and another officer returned to the break room only to find Ofc. Ice leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops," the post continued. "Barwig’s entire lunch was gone....disappeared, vanished!"

A mystery it was not. The statement included that K-9 Officer Ice "has invoked his fifth amendment right to remain silent, and quite frankly is not cooperating with the investigation." In our estimation, this just screams "guilty!" To make matters worse, the post also included that Officer Ice has a "history of rummaging through trash cans that are within his reach. There have been several other accusations of him taking food right from coworker's hands as they walk by."

Court of Public Opinion

They concluded the post by saying that they would strongly consider the opinions of their social media followers on how to proceed. Lots of folks defended the K-9 cop, writing that he was innocent until proven guilty.

Days later, the WPD provided an update, sharing that dozens of local attorneys had stepped forward with offers to defend the stealthy pup "pro-bone-o."

"We have been threatened with massive protests if we move forward with our investigation and/or charges," a January 18 post stated. "Plus, the overall public just doesn't believe he is guilty. No video has been produced."

Having Your Day in Court

So, at this point, Officer Ice will not be getting his day in court, because he apparently won't need one. Public pressure seems to have done the trick.

“Matter of fact, one of his local supporters, Lunch Wyandotte, dropped him off a custom made sandwich today because they felt like he wasn't being fed enough. Side note, they threw the officers a tray of sammies, too! The public has spoken. #nochargesforIce."

All's well that ends well!
