Akita Definitely Prefers 'Sweater Weather', But He'll Do What it Takes to Cool Down

Champ, being a double-coated Akita, doesn’t like much about summer at all, except laying on the cold ceramic tile and going into the lake.

He doesn't like going too far, though, only up to his big chest. He is just biding time until late fall and winter, when he thrives!

Actually, even in winter he prefers the comfort of his cold floors; maybe he just likes laying around!

Today, we are having triple digits in St. Louis, Missouri, along with record dew points. We will be staying indoors for sure! When it gets really hot like this, we try to imagine what it would be like to be walking around with two fur coats on. It has to be miserable.

Champ has his own coloring book out for kids, and one of the many tips in the book is to make sure animals are well-protected from the elements and have plenty of water.
