My husband and I had been looking to adopt a kitten, since I have severe anxiety. My doctor thought it would be best to get me a kitten to keep me company while my husband was at work.

We went to the local shelters, and no one would even look at us or take the time to talk to us since we had no other cats. We were rejected again and again. We were losing hope that we would even be able to rescue a kitten, since we wanted to rescue, and not just buy a kitten. Then a friend of mine called me.

A friend of hers had just had a feral cat give birth on her front porch, and her neighbor took them in. I contacted the woman right away. The kittens were only 4 weeks old at the time, so we arranged to get together after they were of age.

Not even two weeks later, the woman called me and told me to come get a kitten right away. The mother had rejected them and was becoming violent with the kittens. My husband and I went to the woman's house the next morning.

We walked in to find five kittens huddled together for warmth. There was one kitten, though, who seemed to be much smaller than the others. It was as far away from the others as possible, sleeping inside the litter box! I pointed to that kitten and asked the woman about it.

She began telling us that she didn't engage with the others well. She was the smallest, and the loneliest. I asked to pick her up, and the kitten rubbed her head against my neck and purred so gently, as if to say "I feel safe with you."

The next thing I knew, we were home. It took her a while to adjust, but our little Chi is just the sweetest kitten! She loves to climb everything, she loves to burrow underneath the blankets, and she purrs constantly! She is a little angel! I'm thankful everyday for our little blessing; our little litter box sleeper.
