One hot summer evening, my son was driving to work over the city bridges. He spotted a very small kitten peering over the edge of the bridge and lifting a paw as if she might jump to her death.

He quickly exited the bridge and pulled back on to rescue her. With nowhere to pull over, he stopped his car, turned on the emergency flashers, scooped her up and ran back to his car, risking his life to rescue her.

He called me and said he had a kitty for me. "Who, me? No, no kitties!" I said. I live an hour away in the country.

He then called his sister and dropped off the kitten to her, as he rushed off to his job. His sister was horrified at the sight of kitty. She was near death, so tiny you could wrap your fingers all the way around her belly, flea infested, and sick with a respiratory infection.

She bathed her three times with flea soap, and when her brother was released from work that night, he took her to the emergency vet. He found out she was 4 months old and he got medication and special instructions on how to nurse her back to health. He did, the sweet soul that he is.

Every day he called me, "Mom, I have a kitty for you..."

"No," I answered. "No kitties!"

Two weeks later, my son showed up at my door, handed me the kitty and drove away, while the kitty and I watched him out the window yelling "meow" and  "nooooo."

We tiptoed around each other, the kitty and I, for a few weeks. but she always insisted on sleeping at the end of my bed! No matter what I tried, she cried to sleep with me every night.

Kitty finally won out and has been sleeping at the foot of my bed for six years now! She is a cuddle lover, hugs me and nudges me, and is my very best friend and sweetie pie! She's also the best gift I've ever received!
