One evening in 2007, as two friends and I devoured McFlurry ice cream treats at a McDonald’s, a man rushed in and looked wildly around, then settled his attention on me.
“Did you leave a cat by the dumpster?” he asked.
I immediately jumped up, grabbed the small cat, and put her in my friend’s gym bag. Later that night we called her Flurry.
As we soon discovered, Flurry was pregnant. Two months later, struggling with her labor, Flurry brought forth five kittens via C-section. Three of the kittens survived past the first week. Those remaining kittens, like Flurry, were not placed for adoption but remained with me.
Flurry, my original baby mama kitty, now 17-years-old, is my reigning matriarch. Two of her kittens are still with me; the third passed over the Rainbow Bridge in 2021.
My baby girl struggles with sinus issues, is bossy with food, and must always be in my face. Her favorite pastime, other than sleeping, is licking paper products. As long as it makes her happy, she can lick as many paper towels as she wants!
