We had been looking for a companion for our young rescue pup Brodie. We have always had two dogs, and we felt that a friend would provide comfort and friendship for Brodie while we were away during the day. We searched for a while and met quite a few adorable rescue dogs, but none really clicked with our Brodie.

Then we went to an adoption event to meet a small pup I had fallen in love with on a rescue site. She was not the same healthy smiling puppy from the picture – she was scared and skinny, her ribs showing through her dirty, matted fur. Lucie was terrified but allowed me to pick her up, wide-eyed and shivering but being a brave girl.

She didn't know about snuggles or car rides, walks or treats, or any of the love every pup deserves. It took Lucie a few days to be comfortable being inside the house and around us. It was heartbreaking to see her fear but so rewarding to watch it fade away. Brodie was fantastic with her in those first weeks, giving her confidence to approach us and finally to snuggle us.

We've had Lucie for a year now, and she is fully settled into our family. It took a little longer than we anticipated, and she had a few bumps along the way, but the reward is a loving pup who has found her forever family.
