A few years ago, I decided to get my kids a pet, so I went to check out the local shelter.

When I drove to the shelter, I wanted to see what kind of animals were available. I had absolutely no intention of getting a pet that day, just to see my options. I walked in and asked to see the adoptable pets. The shelter worker was happy to show me around.

I walked into the back where the animals were kept and was so sad to see so many. I saw so many types and breeds of animals and was a bit overwhelmed. I decided to go home and do some research on breeds to find the best fit, but on my way out, I heard a sad sound coming from a small cage.

When I got closer, I saw it was a medium Jack Russell mix. He had pressed himself up against the front of the cage and was staring at me with the saddest eyes. He whined softly; it broke my heart.

I asked the woman working there about him, and she said his time was up and he was in need of adoption ASAP. Knowing he had no time left also broke my heart. I decided to take him home. I adopted him on the spot.

After the paperwork was done, I took him straight to PetSmart and bought everything he needed. He was so happy to be out of the shelter and was super affectionate.

I named him Lucky, and he is my furry little love bug. He sleeps with me at night and follows me by day. That trip to the shelter changed my life and his. He has his fur-ever home.
