After taking care of a friend’s cat for two months, I decided I wanted to have a cat of my own.

My friends were planning to move abroad in six months, so their cat, a 6-year-old male, would come to live with me.

The only problem was my boyfriend. He and the cat had a very competitive relationship.

My boyfriend told me that this cat was a very wild and unfriendly animal, and he would prefer not to take him in as our pet.

I told him that I wanted a cat, so if our friends decided to take their cat with them, I would adopt a kitten from the street.

One Saturday night, as my boyfriend opened the door, I saw a kitten’s face peeking out of his backpack.

She was about 8 weeks old, underfed, dirty, and sick with cat flu.

He said, “I saw her sitting still in the middle of the road, and I thought that if she stayed there, a car would hit her.”

I kept her, fed her, and started searching for doctors on a late July weekend.

I knew nothing about cats, their illnesses, or their care.

She was sneezing and coughing, and her meow was silent.

On Monday, I took her to the vet, and he gave her the proper medication. The next day, I lost her after she fell off the balcony. It was a miracle that I found her again on a dark, rainy evening.

Lucy started doing better and better, but the flu would not go away, and the time was coming for the older cat to come here.

It was dangerous for him, too, if he caught the flu. I vaccinated him and brought him to the house.

I followed Jackson’s advice about introducing them.

On the third day, he escaped and hissed at Lucy. On the sixth day, he sneaked into Lucy’s room again, very carefully and respectfully.

By the ninth day, they started sharing the room peacefully.

I now have two lovely cats who enjoy each other’s presence.

Lucy is healthy now, and I’m a happy cat mom.

Blind kittens wearing bow ties

Click to Help James

James and his blind brother, William, were found abandoned on the street when they were just four weeks old. James was born with one blind eye that started to cause him discomfort. Over time, that eye became increasingly painful and irritated. James is the seeing-eye cat for his brother, making his condition even more urgent to treat.
