This is Maddox and Oliver. I call them my Halloween kitties, and rightfully so! Two years ago this exact week, a friend called me after finding a little black stray wandering the alley outside her house and asked if I would want him. Of course I wanted him!

The following day, she dropped him off, and I took him straight to the vet for a health examination. Despite being a little undernourished, he was eight weeks old and perfectly healthy. He is now two years old as of last month.

Although he was a tiny little thing, he immediately made it known that he was the dominant cat of the house. My calico, Kallie, who has sadly since passed away, was his subordinate, but they loved each other!

Fast forward exactly one year. Oliver came to us at a house party on Halloween night. Undeterred by the commotion and noise of the party, this little black ball made his way around and socialized with everyone.

Our friend said he had been hanging around the house for a few days, so with no collar and no neighbors coming forward to claim him, I took him home. He also had a perfect health exam and was around 10 weeks old.

After a few weeks of adjustment, and Maddox making it known that he was the BOSS, they became inseparable.

I got so lucky to have been able to save these two boys, get them healthy and neutered, and get them off the streets. Is it a coincidence that my two black kitties both found their way to me the week of Halloween? I think not!
