We rescued Deuce, our husky (pictured), after our previous rescue dog, Andy, died suddenly from cardiomyopathy at the age of eight. Andy was a Pointer and he was wonderful. At the same time we had a rescue named Rosie, who was a Basset/Dachshund mix. When Andy passed she was heartbroken. So we decided to go for another dog.
We went to get another Pointer but then my sister saw Deuce. He put his paw through his kennel and gave me his husky 'aroo'. That was enough for me. He was our Christmas present in 2008 and came to live with us on December 26th.

He was 7 at the time and has now turned 13. He is on medication for arthritis, but other than that is doing great.
Deuce and Rosie were great together for the next three years, but then Rosie got sick and passed away in September 2011 at the age of almost 13. This time Deuce and I were both heartbroken.

She was the first dog I ever picked out on my own and I loved her so much. But you should never leave a husky by himself and I knew he needed a buddy. So even though it had not been long, I went back to the rescue where we had brought Deuce from.
They had a bunch of their foster dogs out in the yard. I had my eye on two different black dogs. Both had heartbreaking stories. The male's owner was serving in the military and his dad no longer wanted to keep the dog. The female had been turned in because her family was moving out of state and weren't able to take her. The female won out and five year old Ariel joined our family that day in October 2011.
It took me a while because I missed Rosie so much, but Ariel grew on all of us. She is a Border Collie/Chow mix and she and Deuce love racing through the house together.
She has made him young again. For that and her loving personality, I will always love her.
