I was trying to fill time, and one of my daughters-in-law suggested volunteering with animals. Sounded like a possibility. We had three dogs but had recently lost our Ralph, a wonderful golden, and so I went to a pet adoption and signed up to work with a local rescue.

I had said I would do whatever, within reason, that was needed, and soon I was asked to go to a shelter in a different county and pick up a dog for our rescue.

Off I went, took care of the paperwork, and Phoebe was placed on the front seat of my car for the ride back. She sat there with her feet on my console, staring at me, and I kept reassuring her that we would get back okay and she would be great!

Well, her foster fell through. I volunteered my husband and myself to foster her, and she never left.

Phoebe has helped me with the loss of two more of my fur babies and helped us welcome a golden puppy into our family. She is the best thing that has ever happened to us, and my husband and I love her to pieces, as does her brother Baxter!
