It had been about a year since my 21 year old cat K.C. had died. I vowed I would not adopt again. But then this beautiful longhaired calico showed up at my back door.

After three days, I could resist no longer and began to feed her. She was clearly thin, ill and covered in fleas. I took her to the vet because she had an upper respiratory infection and had her treated for fleas. Phoebe was chipped, and I was able to discover her history.
She had been wandering from home to home for years, never content to stay in one place until she came to us. She was the sweetest, most loving and laid back cat. She wanted nothing more than to be with her people, sit in our laps and sleep with me every night. Phoebe was my little buddy, and my husband and I loved her very much.

Sadly, a little over three-and-a-half years later, she contracted cancer and died. She is greatly missed. Yes, I have adopted another cat from our local shelter. A beautiful 4 year old female tuxedo cat named Bootsy. But that's another story!
