“I do NOT want a big dog!”

My husband’s archaeologist friends asked if we would take in a big, friendly dog who kept showing up at their dig site week after week, accepting handouts and attention. The landowner told them he would shoot the dogs that were getting near his livestock, so they wanted to help this sweet guy.

Needless to say, when they brought him by, I fell in love with his big, sad eyes and gentle nature. He was all scarred up, with chunks missing. I took him to the vet and discovered he was microchipped — and also had heartworm.

The artifact diggers helped us pay for his heartworm treatment, and the chip’s registered owner gladly turned over the information. She explained that she had saved him from the side of the road two years earlier, but he had run away.

Ponce Dig’Leon and his big dog heart have blessed us with his love for nine years now.
