I already have six cats, but three months ago, two more cats appeared near my home. I began leaving food and water out for them, hoping to keep them safe while I searched for their owners.

The cats were friendly and did not seem feral, so I suspected they had once been someone’s pets. However, no one responded to the notices I posted asking people to claim the lost cats. Neither cat had a collar or microchip, and I began to suspect they had been dumped in my subdivision.

I cannot safely integrate them with my six older indoor cats and three dogs. Still, I refuse to leave them without care. I continue to give them food, water, love, and attention.

The two cats now camp out on my front porch. It gives them a safer place to rest than the woods behind my house and a home where they know someone is watching over them.
